Why do I like to paint faces and bodies and people?

There is nothing more interesting than the human face. Everyone is so different. I see faces as a jigsaw puzzle waiting to be assembled. I Love, love, love, painting faces! There is something very special about a painted portrait that isn't captured in a photograph. It is the essence of a person.

People often say to me, painting a face must be do difficult. I usually reply, there is nothing more interesting or exciting than watching a face develop on a piece of wood or a canvas. It takes time and practise to get a good likeness of someone. I still get a sense of wonder when l see how a painting comes to fruition.

When l paint a portrait l become entwined with the face that l am painting and see the beauty of them. As the famous Aboriginal artist from Utopia Emily Kame Kngwarreye said, "as an artist, you leave a part of your own soul with the viewer.
